Caleb and the beanstalk

Caleb and the Beanstalk
Long long ago there lived were two small houses on the side of a hill and there lived Caleb and his best friend Djae. Caleb was a normal boy who  dreamed of  adventure and Djae was a powerful wizard.

One very hot day they went to go and sell Caleb’s horse, at least that‘s what Caleb’s grandma told him.   About halfway down the hill they came across an ugly old man.

He said, “That is a magnificent horse I will  trade horse him for these magic peas.”

Caleb said “`YES!’’ because Djae was magic after all but nobody knew besides Caleb. So Caleb took them.

Caleb asked Djae “Can you fly us home?”

“Yes”  Djae whispered. “Up we go!”.

When they got home Caleb shouted “Grandma! Grandma!”

“What is it dear?” she said in a squeaky voice.

”I have brought you magic peas.”

She screamed “Magic peas! Magic peas! Magic is not real boy! Now go to your room!”

While Caleb went to his room grandma angrily planted the peas to see if they could grow.  When grandma was done Caleb called out “Djae! Djae!” Djae arrived and Caleb told him about the plan to see  if the peas could grow into something big.
“We will look first thing in the morning“ Caleb whispered into Djaes small ear.

In the morning Djae finally arrived, tired as always. “So lets start “ Caleb quietly said. “WOW! look how much it grew over night!” Caleb said in shock. “Lets climb it” announced Caleb in a deep voice.

So they climbed and they climbed for three days straight. Finally they reached the top where they saw the smallest house they‘ve ever seen. It was made out of brick and coal.

There was sixteen fierce dwarves that had teeth as sharp as swords ,flaming red eyes and a hat as sharp needle. They  were hunting a deer with light brown fur with white  spots. One dwarf jumped  off a dirty rock on to the deer. It’s teeth sank into the flesh and the rest of the dwarves held it down. They carried it in the house where Caleb and Djae saw there were even more dwarves.

Caleb and Djae went inside the house very cautiously. The dwarves were all sleeping and snoring loudly. The deer was cooking very slowly. There were lots of clothes and dirty socks. It smelt awful.

One of them woke up. He  yelled “Wake up! Wake up!” to his friends out loud. The dwarves chased Caleb and Djae into the dark scary forest.

Djae built Caleb a sword. Djae was going to use his  magic powers, but when the dwarves came back they had turned into bears, wolves, lions and tigers. Djae used his powers to slay the beasts and Caleb used his sword, that was as thin as thread. Finally the dwarves gave up and gave Caleb and Djae all their gold for their bravery. The dwarves were so tired they fell asleep. They snored like lions roars.

Caleb and Djae became the richest people in all the land and you can be sure they lived happily ever after!

  3. Caleb, you have written an excellent story. You have thoroughly enjoyed our Fairytales unit. You have worked well towards achieving the learning intention which was to rewrite a known fairy tale using the elements of narrative writing. You used the success criteria to help you create a detailed and entertaining fairytale. I particularly like the similes, interesting adjectives and adverbs you have used. Your next step is to work on developing a strong ending to your story. It is easy to rush an ending after writing a long story but it is one of the most important parts as it pulls the whole story together. Remember you can add more detail when you are revising and editing your work.
